Mostly about whether you can work here all day. You can: the workspace is free, and a coffee buys you the desk until closing.
Working here
- Can I work from Beanchain all day?
- Yes. The shared workspace is free and open during opening hours, with no day rate, no membership and nothing to book. Buy a coffee and the desk is yours for the day. We built the room for people who need somewhere to get a full day done.
- Do I have to pay to use the workspace?
- No. There is no charge for the workspace, no day rate and nothing to join. We are a coffee shop, and buying something is how the room stays free, so if you are settling in for the day, get a coffee.
- Is the WiFi free, and are there power outlets?
- The WiFi is free and there is power at nearly every seat. Ask at the counter for the network password. Bringing a laptop and a charger and staying a while is the intended use, not an inconvenience.
- Can I bring my own food and drink?
- We ask that you do not bring outside food or drink in. The counter is what pays for the room being free, so a coffee is the deal. The whole menu is served all day, and there is a cooler and cup ramen if you want something quick.
- Can I print something?
- Yes, there is printing available in the workspace. Ask at the counter and someone will sort you out.
- Do I need a reservation for the shared workspace?
- Not for everyday working. Reservations are only for booking the space for an event or a group, which you can do through our Peerspace listing.
Meetings and rooms
- Can I rent a room for a meeting?
- Yes. The conference room is bookable by the hour through Peerspace, which handles the calendar and the payment. It suits interviews, client meetings, small workshops and recording. Book the conference room
- How many people fit in the conference room?
- Ten around the table, and there are extra folding chairs in the room for a bigger group standing or seated around the edge. There is a screen on a rolling stand, a mobile whiteboard with markers, a lectern, blinds on the window, and power outlets built into the middle of the table so nobody is running a cable across the floor.
- Do you have private offices to rent?
- Not at the moment. The offices we have are all occupied on longer-term arrangements. The shared workspace is free and open every day, and the conference room can be booked by the hour.
- Can I book the whole space for an event?
- Yes. The shared workspace has its own Peerspace listing for events and group bookings. For anything that needs food as well, get in touch at contact@bchain.coffee. Book the workspace for an event
Food and drink
- Do you have vegan and gluten free options?
- Yes, both, and not just as an afterthought. Any sandwich can be made as a bowl to keep it gluten free, or on Dave’s bread to keep it vegan. The Rustic and The Snacker are vegan as they come, Day Oats are vegan and gluten free, and the brownie is certified gluten free and arrives sealed rather than out of our kitchen.
- Do you serve breakfast all day?
- Yes, and not just breakfast: the whole menu is available all day, 8am to 5pm. The Breakfast Sandwich, the breakfast burritos, Breakfast In Bed and both kinds of oats do not stop at eleven, and neither do the lunch sandwiches if that is what you want at opening.
- Is there a happy hour?
- Yes. All sandwiches are 15% off from 1pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
- Do you do catering?
- Yes. Catering orders go through our ezCater listing. For something that does not fit a standard order, email contact@bchain.coffee. Order catering on ezCater
- Is there a secret menu?
- There is, and it is written on the board in the shop, so it is not much of a secret. The Black Bear, the Honey Bee, the Maxucchino and the Honey Nut Americano are all on it, and they are all on our menu page too.
Visiting
- Where are you and is there parking?
- We are at 1110 W Southern Ave, #8, Mesa, AZ 85210, in the plaza on West Southern Avenue, and there is parking right outside.
- What are your hours?
- Open every day, 8am to 5pm. The same hours every day, including weekends.
About us
- What does worker directed mean?
- It means the people doing the work have a real say in how the business runs, rather than decisions arriving from somewhere above them. It is why the shop exists in the form it does, and it is the reason the workspace is free.
- Can I take a book home from the library?
- We would rather you did not. The library is for reading here, so that the book is still on the shelf for the next person who wants it. Take your time with it while you are in.
- Can I donate a book to the library?
- Yes, on one condition: tell us why you like it. Not a review, just a reason. If there is not one, we would rather you kept the book. That rule is the whole reason the shelves are full of things somebody cared about instead of whatever was being cleared out of a garage.
- What is the community book?
- A book on the shelf that anybody can add to. People write in it, draw in it, and contribute in whatever way they want to. Nobody edits it and nobody curates it.
- What is Pay It Forward?
- A way to buy a meal in advance for somebody who needs one. It runs through PIF Board, the project we built for it at pifboard.com: you pay for a meal, a local business provides it, and the person who needs it collects it with no questions asked and nothing to prove.
